Burnout: Paradise Cruising to PC
Criterion Games' well-received open-world racer Burnout: Paradise will be ported to the PC, publisher Electronic Arts announced Friday. The first title in the long-running arcade racing franchise to appear on computers, Burnout: Paradise promises "expanded multiplayer, enhanced online features, and community-driven content." Additionally, the press release mentions unspecified new content for the PC version, which EA claimed is being "rebuilt specifically" for the platform.

EA Sports Reveals New Fitness Game
Wii Fit hasn't even arrived in the United States yet, but Peter Moore is already excited about the possibilities offered by it's signature balance board peripheral. Speaking at the three-day EA Sports showcase in Vancouver, Moore revealed a new fitness game that will be released under the newly-created Freestyle label. In doing so, he spoke of his admiration for Wii Fit, saying that the unnamed title will likewise utilize the balance board.
Like Nintendo's breakthrough hit, Moore said that the new title will put a strong emphasis on fun, saying, "It can't feel like a workout. The team has to figure out, how do I smile while I'm doing this? You play soccer for 90 minutes; if I say you're going to run five miles you're not gonna want to do that. But you run for five miles playing soccer and you've had a good time."

Mortal Kombat vs. DC to Feature Milder Fatalities
When Midway first unveiled Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe last month, word of its T-rating logically led many to assume the usual over-the-top Mortal Kombat violence would be drastically toned down, perhaps even with the elimination of the series-standard "fatality" finishing moves. Well, the assumption was half-right -- in a lengthy interview with GameTap, Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon confirmed fatalities would still be in the game, but the level of violence (and what they'll even be called) will likely be altered.

There was never any statement on our part that fatalities will be gone or that finishing moves will be gone," said Boon. "We did acknowledge that we won?t be able to do the same kinds of outrageous moves, like tearing someone's head off and the spine being attached to it. But there are a lot of assumptions that there will be no blood in the game, that there are no fatalities in the game. It's an assumption that, because the DC characters will be in there, those features will have to be dropped. My response is that, no, we're modifying fatalities... The names of these moves, and the level of violence we use, are to be determined. But it's certainly not a feature we plan on eliminating from the series."

Play GRID Demo, Win a Ford Mustang GT-R
Codemasters released a playable demo on Thursday for their upcoming racing game GRID (the North American re-branding for their long running TOCA/Race Driver series) on the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network. But rather than offer the usual couple of cars and race tracks to get a taste of the full game (although that's there too), Codemasters has made this demo a little more interesting. Players can compete in a Time Attack mode, and those who turn in the top five runs will be flown out to San Francisco for the GRID launch event. There, they'll compete one more time to win an eBay Motors-branded Ford Mustang GT-R.

Participation does, however, require a little bit of legwork. Rather than have the demo itself submit your times, you have to go to Codemaster's official GRID community site and enter your time yourself. Once authenticated, your times will then be ranked on the online leaderboard against all other submitted and verified times. The contest runs until May 25, and there doesn't seem to be any prohibition against submitting as many time trial runs as you can, so keep practicing, Mustang fans.

MLB Power Pros 2008 Slides Home in July
The swing of the bat, the roar of the crowd! It's baseball season again, sports fans, but if you prefer America's favorite pastime with diminutive anthropomorphic creatures, you'll be glad to learn Konami and 2K Sports have announced MLB Power Pros 2008, the latest installment in the long-running Japanese series that was first released in North America last year.

Once again starring goofy, tiny players, MLB Power Pros 2008 promises to offer more of the series' easy-to-learn, family-friendly baseball action. The game will have over ten modes, including the usual baseball game fare of League, Exhibition, Practice, Home Run Challenge, and a the franchise-like Season mode. This year's Wii version will also include Mii support, though the extent of the feature is not yet known.

On top of that, though, there are also the RPG-inspired Success and MLB Life modes. The former is a story-based mode that puts players in the role of an up-and-coming Double-A Minor League player, and through various training and challenge mini-games you'll attempt to improve your player's skills and impress the scouts to make it to the big league. Once this mode is complete, you can then transfer your player to MLB Life, another story-based mode where your player will traverse a 20-year career in the Major Leagues.

PlayStation Store: PixelJunk Encore, Haze Demo
PixelJunk Monsters Encore, the downloadable expansion to the well-received PlayStation Network tower defense title, leads the weekly PlayStation Store update at a price of $5.99. Also in the add-on department this week is the Muse Track Pack ($6.25) for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, as well as the Scene Pack ($5.49) and its three individual tracks ($1.99 each) for Rock Band. As speculated earlier this week, the discounted Rock Band tracks ("CrushCrushCrush" -- Paramore, "Rock N Roll Band" -- Boston) received their week-long price drops (to $0.99 each) today, and will remain in effect until May 15th.

In the playable demo front, a 1.43GB download for Haze is now available, flanked by new demos for GRID (961MB) and The Bourne Conspiracy (1.61GB). Video trailers for Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, Mirror's Edge, Overlord: Raising Hell, TNA Impact!, The Wheelman, and Wipeout HD are also up today, along with a free theme and two wallpaper images based on PixelJunk Monsters.
